We are ‘The Preschool in the Woods!’
With over 40 years collective experience, the staff at the Preschool are proud to offer your child a bespoke, tailor made experience which seeks to ensure they will be 'school-ready' once the time arrives for them to join our Reception class by having a strong focus on the prime areas of learning of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Our Preschool children are part of our Bluebell class which caters for children from the first day of term after their 3rd birthday to age 7. This unique setting allows our children to form friendships across the year groups enabling a warm, friendly family atmosphere across the school.
As set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage, our Preschool and Early Years children have their own full-time class teacher, Mrs. Bowden and a full-time key worker, Mrs Sneesby. Through the warm and nurturing personalities of our EYFS team, children are able to settle quickly and make new friends and relationships. The fact that we are a small setting, allows our EYFS staff to tailor your child’s transition. Our staff are able to make quick and accurate observations of your child meaning the maximum opportunity to progress and achieve their potential. As part of our ongoing assessments and observations, we use Tapestry, an online learning journey. This not only allows our staff to keep detailed observations and highlights their next steps for learning, it also enables you as a parent/carer to log on at home to see what your has been doing throughout their day in Preschool.
The children who attend Calder Vale Preschool engage in many different activities throughout the week. We have regular key worker time with Mrs. Sneesby, reading and engaging in a variety of different stories, regular song time and music and movement workshops with Nicola from Diddi Dance. There are also many opportunities to practise both fine and gross motor skills through our daily Dough Disco and Funky Fingers sessions. We are extremely fortunate to have the benefit of two outdoor areas, one as an extension of our classroom with a mud kitchen, a small world area, creative area and much more and our forest which is used for outdoor woodland provision. These outdoor areas are also perfect for allowing children to engage in their own child-initiated learning. In addition to our regular weekly provision, our Preschool children also have the chance to explore the forest in the nearby village and have the opportunity to take part in regular ‘school trips’ with the other children within the class.
Our Pre-School sessions run from 8.55am - 12 noon and 1pm - 3.30pm. Children may come for either a morning or afternoon session or for a full day. Our school lunches are provided by Lancashire County Council or alternately, you can bring a packed lunch from home. There is currently no charge for a Preschool place.
